Goldsmiths SU Café, London
01 October 2021
18:00 - 22:00
Bojack and Casey Tufnell present, All up in that Jazz. The night our Café becomes a Jazz Café
Five piece gestalt fusing rhythms and influences of the new London zeitgeist, lockdown lovechild Bojack come offering a selection of familiar anthems and new material from their impending debut EP alongside spontaneous inventions and musical interlocutions aplenty. Conjuring their sonic tapestry from an amalgam of musical vernaculars distinct and personal, expect a playful navigation and reframing of the familiar in the spirit of jazz interplay. Since the resumption of collective musical festivities, Bojack have begun traversing the corners of London’s scene including a new bi-weekly residency at the Prince of Peckham. Their mixtape series Hear Me Now documents spontaneous concoctions from a back catalogue of lockdown jam sessions: check out the first collection now on Bandcamp, or keep your ears peeled for a second instalment coming 1st October. For a fiesta of groove phenomenology, swing by the SU cafe on the last night of welcome week.
Casey Tufnell describes themselves as gender fluid and genre fluid. Taking inspiration from different genres such as folk, singer/songwriter, soul and jazz they don’t feel the pressure to label themselves with one particular genre. When they perform live they usually ask the audience for random words and make a song on the spot. Tufnell was a runner up for @fredperrysubculture X @nicholas_daley a ward and during lockdown they wrote an #EPaweek for 3 months. Casey Tufnell also co-organises a monthly LGBTQ+ night @queeroffldn
